The "New Version" dialog blocks the program.

Please don't annoy the user by displaying a blocking dialog. If this dialog is displayed, the program will not completly load. 
I have to click one of these tiny buttons to continue. This is very annoying and a really bad UX.

I'm happy for every new update. Thanks for this. :) But please inform me in another way. e.g. display a non blocking notification.
This should not overlay important buttons / menu.

Interesting thought, perhaps this could be moved to a regular top right corner notification that affinity already uses?
EIther way, you have to keep in mind the update cycle of stable affinity when considering these notifications. If you're thinking about the beta version, sure, it gets updated frequently so a top level notification starts to become annoying (it should still be kept at the top since every new beta update makes the previous one outdated when it comes to reporting bugs). But as for stable, it barely gets updates every few months or so, so I think that kind of time difference requires a top level notification, as a kind of announcement.

I don't think I've ever seen a program on Windows that makes that optional. The notification methods vary, but all the programs I've installed unconditionally notify the user of available updates.

Come to think of it, Serif’s ‘legacy’ applications (all of which are Windows-only) check for updates every seven days by default, but you can change the interval or turn off the feature altogether.

The update notification as modal blocking dialog is really annoying.
I can't find an option in the preferences about update notifications. (1.7.1.404)
Why not just change that? Just show a subtle notification to indicate that an update is available.
And / or do this only once a day or week. 
I want a notification about updates. But not as dialog on every application start. 
In my case I updated the application and one or two days later, another update available.
It interrupts the workflow. - Please change this.
