I'm using a lot of black and so would like to lighten up the dark gray canvas around my layout to a lighter gray. I've looked around and can't figure out how to do this. You will have to create a rectangle, fill it with the colour you want and move it to the back. If you are referring to the area around the canvas (the pasteboard), then go to Affinity Designer ▹ Preferences ▹ User Interface tab and change the Background Grey Level slider to the desired value. Artboard, canvas, pasteboards...these terms confuse me : ) And I actually love how easy it is to change the pasteboard's grey level.
