Affinity Designer changes the colour of imported images

Recommended Posts

Hi, when I place an image into my document it changes the saturation of that image. I have the colour profiles set as sRGB in the document setup and preferences and I have tried changing these settings and the colour profile in the Microsoft colour control panel and it has not made a difference. I've attached a comparison between an image before being put into Designer and a screenshot from after putting it into Designer

Hi aternos,

Welcome to the forums :)

Could you please confirm, do you have an ICC profile set against your monitor/through your OS? I note you are using an sRGB document, what is the bit depth (ie 8,16,32) of your document please?

Could you please provide a screenshot of the Colour tab under Edit>Preferences? Thanks in advance!

Please note -

Many thanks!

Hi Dan, thanks for your reply! My screen is set to a .icm profile through the OS, although setting it back to the pre-installed .icc doesn't fix the problem. The bit depth is 8 but I've tried the others too. Here's the screenshot of the colour preferences:

Thanks for confirming that. Affinity apps convert colours from document colour profile to screen colour profile, meaning if you have a different profile set against your monitor than you have set in Affinity the app will try to account for this.

It's likely that Affinity is applying this conversion in app, which is why you're seeing a change in saturation :)

Hi thanks again for replying, is there any way to fix this? Even with the screen set to default or with the document set to the screen's profile Affinity changes the image too much to know what colour it will be once exported. Shouldn't the app show correct colours with everything on the program and on the OS set to sRGB?

edit:

actually ignore that, I just needed to close and re-open the program again (duh!) thank you!

For anyone reading this in the future, before making a new document go to edit > preferences > colour, and set the RGB colour profile to sRGB. When you make a new document (File > new) set the colour profile there to the same as you have set in Microsoft Colour Control Panel. When you export the image, (file > export) click More then untick Embed ICC Profile
