JimGoshorn
I was just trying the different settings for gradients in the demo and wonder what there is a Solid setting and a Bitmap setting?
A_B_C
These settings are available from the context tool bar, when the Gradient Tool is selected … :)
JimGoshorn
Sorry for my typo of what instead of why. I don't understand why a gradient would have a solid mode or a bitmap mode. Instead of solid just use a standard fill and for bitmap just place an image. Feels like I am missing something important given the thought that has been put into the app. Jim
Staff Lee D Posted June 19, 2015 Staff Share Posted June 19, 2015 Hi Jim, Even through the Gradient Tool has options to apply solid and bitmap fills, it's primary function is for applying and modifying gradients.
A_B_C
Sorry for my typo of what instead of why. Oh my dear, and I must have read "where" … sorry, it was late yesterday. Well, I guess the Bitmap mode is there for filling shapes with tiled patterns … I have never used this myself before, but it seems to work … see below. Cheers, Alex :)
JimGoshorn
Interesting. While I have looked at patterns a couple of times in Illustrator, I still can't quite get my head wrapped around designing them  Jim

A_B_C
Thanks for these links, MBd … :) Now I guess I understand the Solid option as well … it seems to act like a kind of a reset button. When you apply a gradient to a shape that has a fill already, the Solid option brings back the original fill. On the other hand I wonder why the direction of my gradient is changed, when I go from Solid to Linear again … see my video. Perhaps I am missing something here … Gradient_Tool.mov
anon1
Great if you managed to build them yourself.. I still haven´t tried again :D haha Yes this does not look like a feature but more like a part which could be implemented in an even more sophisticated way :D But right in these days it might not be a top priority ^^ Although I bet if you post it as a bug it will get fixed some day. JimGoshorn
Thanks for the explanations! It would appear that the gradient setting isn't sticky so when you go back from solid to linear, it goes to the standard default setting.
