Hi there,

How can I change a colour of a dress with a specific one? I've been trying for 2 days and none of the videos from YOUTUBE or other info help.

I would like to change the colour of the dress with the colour from the second photo. Some steps would be useful.

Thank you!

Hi amalia,

Welcome to the forums :)

Unfortunately it's a rather difficult task, partly due to the sample image being so small (395px x 548px) meaning a great amount of detail in the image is lost & also due to the fact that the dress you're trying to replace is black. This means replacing the hue requires a significant bump in saturation & lightness, which can lose a lot of the detail of the dress or cause the overlay not to look 'natural'.

I've tried by best using the images supplied. First I selected the black dress using the Selection Paint Brush, then applied a Recolour Adjustment to the selection. I found that a Hue of 5, Saturation at 40% and Lightness at 80% most closely matched your sample colour.

Another option is to use the sample colour as an overlay layer. Using the aforementioned method I created a selection around the dress, then placed the 'nude' tone image over the original image and masked the nude tone to my selection - meaning it is only applied where the dress is. I then changed the blend mode to Hard Light and applied a HSL Adjustment to this layer, with -5% Saturation and +15% Luminosity values to correct the colour change caused by the black tones in the dress.

You can find both of these in the attached file - dress recolour.afphoto. I hope this helps!
