1earJim
I am a relatively new user. I am developing a series of flower images captured from photographs. These often have very elaborate mask that are used to remove background leaves. Once the selections are completed, I create a new layer with the mask. I then add some Fill Layers to highlight the flowers. This has work for over a dozen images. However, the most recent image will not allow me to add a Fill Layer. I used the Layer-New Fill Layer menu to create the new fill layer. The new layer shows up on Layer panel on the right side. I cannot select a color for the layer. I cannot tell is a fill layer has been created. All I see is an alpha page. Checking the hide box does not to have any affect. I have added new Fill Layer to several of my other flower files, which would indicate it is not a software problem. I have included a copy of the .afphoto file. Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong? firstdefence
Select the Move Tool and then select the fill layer and now look at the workspace with the flower and then look to the right of that flower, you will notice a very small bounding box see image, below. Somehow you appear to have made the layer bounding box very small, dragging it out using the Move Tool will show you the fill layer with colour. Exhibit A. Ps. carl123
You had a very tiny selection active when you created the fill layer. So small you can not see it unless you zoomed in a lot If any part of the image has a selection then a new fill layer will only fill the area of the selection, this is normal. Hence when you added a new fill layer it worked as it should but it was so small (3px X 3px) you could not see it. Use Select > Deselect (or Ctrl+D) to deselect the unwanted/invisible selection then add a new fill layer and it will work as expected. So do you think this is normal in the sense of "by design" ... or perhaps a bug, or at least a confusing & unintuitive design choice? I have always considered Fill layers to be ones that automatically fill the canvas, whatever its size, & thus have no 'baked in' width or height. For this reason, when selected the Transform panel fields are all greyed out -- you can't resize, skew, or rotate them because they always adapt to the canvas size. But the ones created from 'marching ants' selections don't act at all like normal fill layers. Not only can they be moved, resized, skewed, or rotated (including to partially or fully off-canvas positions); they act strangely when inverted, can't be selected by clicking on them on the canvas with the Move Tool, but can be selected with a marquee drag. This just doesn't seem right to me.
