The main subject layer was selected and merged.

The first screen shot with the merged layer non active

second with the merged layer active.

The difference is obvious although the rendition is 1468816943_ScreenShot2019-08-07at6_32_08AM.thumb.png.7953477ade482cd202c127e634d39664.png1467412347_ScreenShot2019-08-07at6_31_50AM.thumb.png.7953a9ac0680d8c7e8ba0ef22d7dd6fb.pngmuch better in the second situation. Is this normal?

Hi MEB I uploaded a different file but with the same problem i.e. different rendering after "merge visible".

In any case the file showed the problem well on my computer, see screenshot for info on my imac.

Since I am here I have a question that was not really answered on a previous post. How, if possible, to merge only one layer with all the subordinated layers such as filters, live filters etc. but leaving the other layers alone?

From the main menu, Layer > Merge Selected, perhaps?

No, it does not work. It merges all down in my experience.

Merge Selected will only merge the selected layers, but there's a trick involved if you want to work on a single layer.

If you have a single layer, with nested adjustment or filter layers, then Layer > Merge Selected is disabled. You need to have at least two layers selected for it to become available.

So, if you had this, and wanted to merge the selected layer and its adjustments, Merge Selected won't do it:

However, you could add an empty pixel layer below them, and then it would work.

With empty pixel layer added and selected:

After Layer > Merge Selected:

The unselected layer at the bottom was not affected.

  • 1 year later...

Thanks Meb I try to merge down, because I would like to do some non-destructive finishing touch with Inpainting and patch tool, etc.. I understood this is possible. As the merge down gave another result, I indeed exported as Jpeg and than did the finishing touch..
