Gradient Tool "Rectangular" handles mode

Hi, I'm using Affinity Designer 1.7 on Windows and I found a new cool feature with Gradient Tool, the handles now can appear in a rectangular shape which gives more control. I like this feature a lot but the problem is that it appears occasionally.  Sometimes when I apply the Gradient tool it shows the old "line" handle, but sometimes it shows that new "rectangular" handles. Is there some way to control it and to switch between two modes?
