Please help, lost all files.

Recommended Posts

My app kept crashing, so I read I should delete the app and reinstall... however when I deleted the app, my entire folder with all my projects disappeared.... This is a horrible design flaw unless there’s something I’m missing? Is there any way to recover all of that work I did? It seems the app is not very stable as I’ve been encountering a lot of crashing. Any help to save all of the design work I did would be immensely appreciated. Thank you.

This is a horrible consequence of iPad apps being sandboxed. When you delete the app you delete the sandbox, so if you didn’t save copies of your projects outside of the sandbox I’m afraid they’ll no longer be available.

So from now on I just need to only save documents to an external folder that I've created on the Ipad storage or cloud storage? WOW I cannot believe that is the design of the apps on IPAD what a serious design flaw. 20 hours of work gone. Q.Q is the app always this unstable?

You need to choose the ‘Save a Copy’ option from the Document menu. Then when you reopen the copy from its new location it will be added to the home screen and any future saves will be to the same location, safely outside of the sandbox.

For what it’s worth, I’ve had very few crashes lately.

I have used the save, export and save as copy feature and all my files are GONE. Gone. gone.  Do I need to save the copies somewhere outside the Designer save folder? :( maybe I'm misunderstanding. I appreciate the responses.

When you delete an iPad app, it deletes all the folders the app created on installation. You can use the Files app or something like Documents by Readdle, to create a different Designer folder on the iPad. You save to that folder and if you delete Designer app, it deletes its own Designer folder, but will not delete the Designer folder that you created with Files or Documents. It’s the way iOS works and we all have to accept it as part of the security of iOS. Remember though, in the example I have provided, deleting Files or Documents would delete your new Designer folder and it’s contents. :)

Thanks, it's been years since I've been on iOS I appreciate the tips! Makes sense now. Thanks to Alfred too. :D cheers!

Did you try restore from backup, you may be able to recover all your files that way if you still have a backup in cloud or on desktop from before you deleted app.
