DavidMKelly Posted August 5, 2019 Posted August 5, 2019 When I import a pdf book cover template from Amazon, Affinity Photo resizes the image so it's not the same as the original. The file it creates is subsequently the wrong size when re-exported to pdf for upload to amazon. If I do the same operation with the png template, it comes in the correct size. Caused a lot of grief figuring out what the problem was though. Original dimensions are 3923x2775 px, after pdf the file is 3847x2700 px ! Quote
Staff Gabe Posted August 12, 2019 Staff Posted August 12, 2019 Hi @DavidMKelly Welcome to the forums and sorry for the delayed reply. Can you please attach your afphoto file and the template so we can have a look? Thanks, Gabe. Quote
DavidMKelly Posted August 12, 2019 Author Posted August 12, 2019 Hi Gabe Here are the files - afphoto, pdf , and png Regards Dave 6x9_Cream_340.pdf6x9_Cream_340.afphoto 6x9_Cream_340.png Quote
Staff Gabe Posted August 12, 2019 Staff Posted August 12, 2019 You have selected "Include Bleed" in the "More" options on the export dialogue. Therefore, the final image size will be larger. This is expected. Quote
Joachim_L Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 (edited) @GabrielM This is not the first topic, where this problem occurred. Maybe you want to consider having Include Bleed unchecked as a default setting? For a print PDF including bleed makes sense, but including bleed is checked for all presets. Sorry, haven't checked this before. This is related to the Document Setup, if there is no bleed defined, then include bleed is not available. DavidMKelly Posted August 12, 2019 Author Posted August 12, 2019 I haven't selected any options in the export dialog - those are the defaults. But that's not the issue, the problem is that the pdf is coming in at the wrong size when imported. So definitely NOT expected Quote
Joachim_L Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 See my edited post David. You must have bleed enabled in your Document Setup. Quote ------ Windows 10 | i5-8500 CPU | Intel UHD 630 Graphics | 32 GB RAM | Latest Retail and Beta versions of complete Affinity range installed
Joachim_L Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 Just for the records: I am able to set up a document with 0 bleed, but having the include bleed option checked in the export dialogue - see images. This time the flexibility of Affinity is to blame. Quote ------ Windows 10 | i5-8500 CPU | Intel UHD 630 Graphics | 32 GB RAM | Latest Retail and Beta versions of complete Affinity range installed
DavidMKelly Posted August 12, 2019 Author Posted August 12, 2019 Thanks, Joachim. I'm not setting up any bleed, or the document. Just importing an existing pdf directly into afpaint. Quote
Staff Gabe Posted August 12, 2019 Staff Posted August 12, 2019 That PDF has got bleed, and Photo imports that PDF with bleed. If you choose to export it with Bleed on, it will add the bleed area to your image. By default, the 2 existing presets have "Bleed off" so the image will be exported with the correct 3855 x 2700 size. @Joachim_L Document setup is a Designer option and not available in Photo. Quote

Yes sorry, not reading correctly here the original post, but in Publisher it is possible to have allegedly zero bleed, but the include bleed option still available during export. DavidMKelly Posted August 12, 2019 Author Posted August 12, 2019 You're right, Gabe. If I export with the bleed on the file comes out the right size, but now has some weird offsetting where the image doesn't fill the whole pane (presumably from the bleed areas). Quote
Staff Gabe Posted August 12, 2019 Staff Posted August 12, 2019 That's probably just how the bleed is designed in that PDF. Hard to tell unless you attach the project file/pdf. Quote
DavidMKelly Posted August 12, 2019 Author Posted August 12, 2019 The pdf was the one I attached earlier, this is the project file. 2019 MOE Cover 01.afphoto Quote
Staff Gabe Posted August 13, 2019 Staff Posted August 13, 2019 Your page does not fully extend into the bleed area You would need to resize it to fit either the area with bleed or the area without bleed Quote
DavidMKelly Posted August 13, 2019 Author Posted August 13, 2019 Thanks for explaining what's happening, Gabe. I think I understand now, but it's confusing when what you see on the screen doesn't seem to match the real situation. Quote
