Designer, problem layer text import file pdf and ai

Recommended Posts

I downloaded the trial version of Designer, I already have a PagePlus X9 license.
When I open a pdf both programs text layers are often not recognized as text but as graphics.
In this video https://affinity.serif.com/it/tutorials/designer/desktop/video/301604837 we see that the text is imported correctly. I opened a pdf file and ai file and in both cases the text was not recognized. This function is important for me, is it possible to solve the problem?

Hi Gaspare and Welcome to the Forums,

We can't directly open the AI part of the file and have to load the PDF version of the AI file, which explains why the text is coming in as curves.

The PDF file PagePlus x9 would also do the same, if when it was published from PagePlus X9 had the option Convert Text To Curves enabled, this would also happen if you opened the PDF in Affinity.

What should I do to open a pdf file created with Illustrator and have the text layer editable as in the video?

Which version of AI are you using?  I tested this by creating a PDF in the latest version of AI CC and could edit the text without issue.  Can you attach a PDF and i'll see what the issue is :)

The pdf has no text. The text shapes are curves.

The AI file is similar in that the text shapes in the file are curves, but there is a missing linked file--a pdf. Unless the linked pdf has actual text, then it would result in the same problem.

You would need to contact the makers of these files and obtain the proper working versions of them.
