Hi there,

usually when I develop RAW-files, I create a text file with all parameters I have used. The only problem are the curves, which I can not describe accurately. I know that some user specific settings are stored somewhere like crop settings. But I can not find the tone curve presets anywhere. Where are they stored? Can I read them with a simple text editor? Even if not, even if I have to apply some decoding to the string (it must be stored somewhere), I wouldn't shy away from that. I'd really like to see my curves in a numerical format if possible.

Thanks

Peter

They will be stored within .propcol files for the Develop persona or the Adjustments, they are stored in different locations depending on the OS. We don't advised attempting to edit these files, this is done at your own risk.

macOS:

~/Library/Containers/com.seriflabs.affinitydesigner/Data/Library/Application Support/user/

Windows:

%appdata%\Affinity\Photo\1.0\user

same question!

Where document presets (aka templates) are stored?
This path does not exist on my system:
~/Library/Containers/com.seriflabs.affinitydesigner/

Are you a Mac user? If so, make sure you are looking in the correct Library folder. Note that the leading tilde & slash is UNIX shortcut for the current user's home folder, so for example if your user short name is "Waj" the path without the shortcut would be /Users/waj/Library/Containers/com.seriflabs.affinitydesigner/Data/Library/Application Support/user/

In the Mac OS the user Library folder is hidden by default, but there are several ways to show it. Alternately, you can use the Finder Go > Go to Folder menu item & enter the path name in the 'go' field that pops up. This method honors the UNIX shortcut, so you could copy & paste the following to go to the folder:

~/Library/Containers/com.seriflabs.affinitydesigner/Data/Library/Application Support/user/

I haven't tested it (which would be easy to do by adding a new document preset & then checking the data modified in Finder) but my guess is you are looking for either the doc_spread_presets.propcol or (possibly) the document_defaults.dat file.

Do keep in mind that there is no safe way to edit these files directly, so the only thing useful about knowing where they are is if you want to make copies of them for some purpose.

Thank you Lee!

Found the curves under develop.propcol. Looks scaringly non-ascii-ian, but it might be a nice brain teaser for me, if I'm really, really bored someday. :7_sweat_smile:

Thank you for your kind assistance.

I guess that Lee's advice

"~/Library/Containers/com.seriflabs.affinitydesigner/Data/Library/Application Support/user/"

might be erraneous, since this path really does not exist. On my system I found instead

‎⁨~/Library⁩/Group Containers⁩/⁨*some code*.com.seriflabs⁩/

but without reference to any kind of preset.

Is the "*some code*" 6LVTQB9699? If so, that is the Developer ID Apple assigned to Serif. It is normal to have that folder, for it not to have any *.propcol or *.dat items in it, & to include several empty folders. That is not where that kind of data is stored.

Anyway, from what I can tell if the above path does not exist, it means the Affinity app was not bought through the Mac App Store. If so, look instead in ~/Library/Application Support/ for a folder named with the app's name (like "Affinity Designer"), & in that folder you should find a folder named "user" with the *.propcol & *.dat items in it.

This also applies to the Mac betas, I guess because they also don't come from the Mac App Store.

It's 6LVTQB9699 indeed.

So, nowhere in ~/Library/ a trace of Affinity presets can be found here ;-(     -     MacOS 10.14.6, Af.Designer 1.7.1

Wondering that, when I save a preset with an already existing name, Af.Designer does not check for replace.

Which store did you buy from, & which app(s) did you buy?

If you bought from Apple's Mac App Store, then the path should be the one @Lee D mentioned (for Designer) or a similar one for photo. If you bought from Affinity's store then the path should be the one I mentioned. Both are sub-folders in the current user's Library folder. That Library folder is hidden by default, so make sure you are in it & not in the top level Library folder or the System/Library folder.
