Is Affinity Designer a good substitute for ACDC Canvas?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Whilst I haven't personally used ACDC Canvas, why don't you give the Designer a try? You could download the free trial, and at the moment after winning the Apple Design Award, the program is discounted if you did want to purchase it.

Hi Vikas,

ACD Canvas is geared towards technical illustration and has specific tools that you will not find in Designer. If the type of work you're doing fits in general illustration, Affinity Designer is a great option, if you depend heavily on technical/cad tools then Affinity may not be the best choice at this point. As aloach said the best you can do is try it for yourself (there's a trial available here) and see if it fits your requirements.

You can find some good tutorials on our Vimeo channel, Affinity Review and a few more shared on the forums by other users (links for all of those here). Any help/question you may need/have just post here.

Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

Hi Vikas,

that depends on what are you doing with Canvas (see MEBs answer).

ACDSee is currently working on a new MAC version (rumors are that there's a beta running since last fall), so if you need some of the Canvas-specific features (e.g. geolocation, page layout features, technical illustrations), just be a little bit patient, you might hear something soon. :-)

Here's a link to a forum thread on the Canvas user board, talking about a realease in "late 2015" with a beta phase, starting in "late 2014": http://forum.acdsee.com/forum/canvas/326-canvas-for-mac/page13
