importing Illustrator files with guides

Opening AI files in Designer and the guides/guidelines don't seem to be imported. Is that a system limitation or am I missing some import option? (or is there a workaround?). I ask this because loading PSD files into Photo is fine - guidelines are preserved. Cheers!

You are not missing anything. Guides are not supported. We only have access to the PDF stream included in the Ai file which as far as I know doesn't include them - all the rest is proprietary (we are not reading/importing the Ai data/objects directly). If you have access to Adobe Illustrator you can convert the guides to lines (vector objects), selecting them all then going to menu View > Guides > Release Guides. Give them a stroke width (otherwise they will still fail on import to Designer) and save the Ai file. Then import the file in Designer as usual.
