PUB: set anker (?) as page number?

Recommended Posts

Hi, how to mark a given page (number) so that in a text this number changes if the page changes by including or deleting other pages? Thx. lars

In general I don't think there's a way to set an anchor like that using page numbers.

But there is one specific case where it can work. If you have linked Text Frames, there is a Field you can insert that will give you the "Next Frame Page Number" and one for "Previous Frame Page Number". This can provide what you want if you're looking for something like "Continued on page ..." or "Continued from page ...". You can access them via the Fields studio panel, or the menu Text > Insert > Fields.

Thanks Walt. That´s not what I looked for (all my pages have one frame for pics and one for text; one kind of pic uses the pic frame as portrait, if a landscape is set it is done between the margins; sometimes something is written on a page).

My situation: on one page, say 26, is a text and therein written: look to the pic on p. 93.

Later I delete p. 86/ 87. The pic is now on p. 91. So on p. 26 must be changed 93 to 91.

May be a later version brings ist. The best, lars

I'm away from my computer and can't provide an actual sample, but I'll describe an approach that can work, though it's complex.

Make the text "on page 93" a separate text frame. Use the same font and font size as the other text. Pin that frame inline with your other text, do it appears that the text reads "look to the pic on page 93" but it's really to frames, on on top of the other.

Then create a small empty text frame on page 93, grouped with the picture.

Link the two new text frames.

Replace the "93" in the first frame with the field "Next Frame Page Number", and visually it will still say "on page 93" but if you add or delete it move pages (or move the picture)  it will update automatically.

EDIT: to set a small text frame into a bigger one there are symbols exact below of Affinity P. in the headline.

It´s complex, JA. I don´t understand it.

But it works! I couldn´t set the new small textframe in the bigger text frame with my text (on p. 3; not 26 as I said before), but set it beside on the margin. The same on p. 93 (without grouping I beleave). The small frame must moved bigger to see the little link arrow. The link works. One sees this, for the: p. 93 runs up to p. 3, so next the frame is to make smaller again and the second p. 93 runs below again to real p. 93. On p. 2: set: Next frame Page Number (that frame which is linked I learned now). Last step, the small frame on p. 93 moved under the pic so it is not to see.

The next test is to use the textframe from the master page in the underline (which stands alone beside the text of the underline) for linking. No, on p. 3 it changes, but p. 93 is written even real it is 97... We must not find out. Best, lars

It seems not necessary to write something into the second frame. The command: Next frame Page Number shows the page number of the next linked ! frame.

Right. You just need to have a next frame :)
