Hi there.  I am brand new to this program and have hit a roadblock.  I am trying to do the tutorials to where I use the Inpaint tool to erase parts of the photo.   They said to hold down the key and it will give you options.  When I hold down the inpaint tool aka bandaid, nothing shows.  When I go to Edit and pull down the menu, Inpaint is not even highlighted.  Any thoughts or suggestions?

The "bandaid" icon is not the Inpainting Tool

Click and hold on the "bandaid" icon and you will get a pop up menu from which you can select the Inpainting Brush Tool

That should then work on any Pixel layer (not Image layers)

Edit > Inpaint only works on selections, so you first have to create a selection or else the function will be greyed out.

You may find it helpful to watch the Affinity Photo - UI overview video tutorial, particularly the part beginning at about 3:18 that discusses the Tools panel & tool groups -- multiple tools that by default share the same icon position. To open their pop-out menu you can either "long click" on the icon or click on the small triangle at the lower right corner of the icon.

You can also Customize the Tools panel, replacing any of the tool groups with individual tool icons, reorder the tools however you like, or set the panel to use 2 or more columns if you need more room or just want an extra pair of color selectors.

Thank you for replying.  Yes, I have reviewed the overview a few times.  When it says to hold down on the bandaid icon and a small menu will pop up, that does not happen.  So I cannot select the inpainting brush tool.  There is no triangle at the bottom of the icon.

There should be, as long as you haven’t customized anything!

Are you using the Mac version or the Windows version of the app? Have you switched to the Light UI from the default Dark UI?
