Fonts and Brush sets are gray when trying to import

Recommended Posts

I’ve seen this issue come up in forums in the past but have never found a solution to the problem. Hoping someone has fixed it and can teach me how!

I've tried to download fonts online and save into my cloud as well as Affinity designer folder on my iPad, but everytime I try to select to import into the program it is gray. I can’t even select it. Does anyone know why it wouldn’t let me import?

Hi Lily J :)

Sorry to hear you're having trouble. What format are your font files in? Where have they been downloaded from please? DO your fonts need unzipping from a compressed folder that it may have been downloaded in? If not, please create a new folder on your iPad called 'fonts' and try copying the font files to this folder, then try importing them into Affinity once again. Please let me know if this doesn't help!

Please note -

I am currently out of the office for a short while whilst recovering from surgery (nothing serious!), therefore will not be available on the Forums during this time.

Should you require a response from the team in a thread I have previously replied in - please Create a New Thread and our team will be sure to reply as soon as possible.

Many thanks!

What cloud storage are you using? Some locations seem to work better than others! Oh, and those of us who have both Affinity apps installed sometimes see different behaviour than those who don’t.

Many free fonts are available from Font Squirrel. If you visit the page for an individual font family — e.g. ChunkFive — you’ll find a handy ‘Install on iPad’ button for downloading a configuration profile which you can then install via the Settings app.

If you plan to install a large number of fonts, I can’t speak highly enough of Florian Schimanke’s AnyFont; it isn’t free, but at only a couple of dollars I think it’s a worthwhile investment for anyone with more than a few dozen fonts to install and manage. It will even unzip fonts where necessary, saving you from having to do that manually as a separate step before installation.
