Kpelfrey
Designer on iPad crashes every time I attempt to open or save a specific document. My other, smaller, documents open fine but this specific document has become unusable. Details: Device: iPad Pro 9.7” (2017) Designer Version: 1.7.1.1 IMG_0022.MP4
Staff Gabe Posted July 31, 2019 Staff Share Posted July 31, 2019 Hi @Kpelfrey, Try this please. Tap-hold on that project until it "pops out" slightly. Drag it as if you were to re-arrange it, then swipe up from the bottom with another finger, open Files and drop it somewhere on your files. See if that works. Thanks, Gabe. Kpelfrey
Hi @GabrielM I tried this but unfortunately it still crashed. F300488E-7D88-492D-A2C4-5DE660DC747D.MP4 Edited July 31, 2019 by Kpelfrey
Staff Gabe Posted August 1, 2019 Staff Share Posted August 1, 2019 If you need that file, try this: Download iMazing (free app for Mac), connect your iPad to your Mac to make a backup of the iPad, and then looked through the backup , inside the Affinity Photo folder > Library > Application Support > com.seriflabs.affinityphoto.ios > Autosave , and look for an autosave of that file. Once the file is exported, it can be renamed to .afphoto and it should work.
Kpelfrey
@GabrielM I was able to recover my file using the method you described. However, now whenever I try to add a pixel paint brush stroke the app crashes. The same doesn’t appear to be true when adding a vector paint brush stroke. Do you have any advise for what might be causing this?
Staff Gabe Posted August 7, 2019 Staff Share Posted August 7, 2019 Very odd. I suggest you back up all your projects/custom brushes/assets/etc. (if required) and re-install the app
Kpelfrey
@GabrielM I factory reset my iPad and re-installed the app but it’s continuing to crash.
Staff Gabe Posted August 12, 2019 Staff Share Posted August 12, 2019 Just to clarify. Does it crash only on that specific project?
Kpelfrey
@GabrielM Yes, it seems to only be that specific project.
Staff Gabe Posted August 19, 2019 Staff Share Posted August 19, 2019 Do you mind attach that recovered project file?

Staff Gabe Posted August 20, 2019 Staff Share Posted August 20, 2019 Another screen recording on this new recovered file would be really helpful as mine does not crash when adding pixel layers/brushes.
Kpelfrey
I have attached another screen recording. Just to note, I am running this on a 2017 9.7” iPad Pro. We also tried this on a 2018 12.9” iPad Pro and did not have the same crashing issues. 784F0F22-C353-499B-9537-9A528A102AA3.MP4
Staff Sean P Posted August 29, 2019 Staff Share Posted August 29, 2019 Hi Kpelfrey, Thanks very much for the file. We've been able to reproduce the crashing - it seems to affect 2GB Ram model iPads, which would explain why the 12.9" iPad Pro model is working! I've passed this on to development
Kpelfrey
Hi Sean, Thanks for the update. Do you think this issue will be resolved for 2GB devices?
Kpelfrey
Hi @Gabe and @Sean P, Just wanted to see if you had any update on this. Are there any plans to resolve this issue? Thanks!
