Hi all, migrated from illustrator and trying to get to grips with the software. I cant join curves correctly at all, I have been looking up forums the past hour and I just cant get this to work at all, its very confusing (Been so used to just highlighting 2 nodes and ctrl+j to join and using pathfinder)

have tried to continue a curve (Which doesnt work at all it just makes another curve essentially, how do you continue a line if deselected????). I tried to join them all up with the close path but it doesnt join the right way at all (See below) I see these red boxes appearing which is probably whats causing this but I really have no clue how to fix this and redrawing everything over and over again is very cubersome.

I've trie doverlapping points (Doesnt snap), joining points (just adds an extra line between points and doesnt 'join' them entirely). Please help :(

Enable Snapping, drag point to point, click Add=1 curve

BUT whatever you do you will have 2 overlapping points at the closings:
