This is a weird one. On the document i am working on (42 pages) in spreads, there have been a few images i have wanted to remove the background of. Using the selection brush tool, it only works on images on the left hand pages. The right hand pages do not register any 'add' or 'subtract' - just does nothing...

Hi Paul,

I have found the issue in two separate (large) documents.

I did set up a fresh doc to replicate, and it didn't happen. I cant upload client files unfortunately.

Could it be to do with an image type not being compatible?

You have to make sure that the image is rasterized (from the right click menu in layers panel). Does this solve this?

no - didnt solve the issue. It is basically any image on the right hand side of spread doesnt work, but on the left hand side, it does. If i had to guess, it would be to do with the fact that designer and photo doesnt support 'spreads' and therefore only focuses on left hand page?

I think you'll need to provide us a sample file otherwise we're just trying to guess what is happening. The link I provided earlier is private

Please explain your scenario a bit more. You've posted in Publisher bugs, and now you're talking about Designer and Photo.

Are you using the Designer or Photo Personas on the Publisher pages, or Edit in Designer/Photo, or double-clicking on a linked image file to edit it in a separate Publisher tab, or something else?

from within publisher, i am trying to edit an image using photo tab. The rest is explained in my first post.

So, to be clear:

  1. You have a 2-page spread.
  2. You want to use some Photo tools on an image on the right-hand page.
  3. You switch to the Photo Persona
  4. You find that the Selection Brush does not work on the right-hand page in the Photo Persona, but it does work on the left-hand page.
  5. Rasterizing the image does not make any difference.

Is that accurate?

Thanks for confirming the workflow.

I just tested with my own file, and the Selection Brush works on both pages of the spread. It will be interesting to see what Serif finds from your sample document.

Definitely a bug here - I get the not being able to select on the right hand page. However If i make a selection on the left cancel it,  then I can make selections on the right. Just got to work out why now

I am finding that i still have to drag most images across to the left side of the double page spread if i want to use selection brush. Occasionally, it allows me to do it on the right side and i am finding that (when it allows me) it tends to be small file size images that work.
