Restoring 35mm Sears camera images

Recommended Posts

The  shot below is a blow up of the boats picture. It was originally a photo taken long ago with a 35mm Sears camera..  What causes all the squiggly patterns that make up the background I am trying to get the pattern out of the clouds and the white specks from the dark wall . Thanks in advanced

Looks like an emulsion problem compounded with compression and the white specks look like gravel in concrete.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Hi dieseldave :)

Our resident restoration expert @GabrielM has helped me immeasurably here, please find an .afphoto file with history saved attached.

He applied frequency separation to get rid of the compression. Followed by a noise removal and an unsharp mask. I hope this helps!

I am currently out of the office for a short while whilst recovering from surgery (nothing serious!), therefore will not be available on the Forums during this time.

Should you require a response from the team in a thread I have previously replied in - please Create a New Thread and our team will be sure to reply as soon as possible.

Many thanks!

Yes, it could be reticulation caused when the emulsion expands and wrinkles. Ironically, in this recent post  was asking how he can get a reticulation effect into his images.
