Affinity mirror trick/s

Recommended Posts

I just learnt something ALL by myself :) I have been doing image mirroring manually for years; however affinity photo has a very snazzy mirroring tool ---- I learnt that long ago >> filter > distort > mirror .
What I didn't know there is a tool icon for mirroring that can be added to the toolbar (red).
But there's even more; you can use the arrow keys to adjust the effect -- left and right arrow select the input or output dials [blue] while the up and down arrows adjust the amounts .
Not finished yet ; click the green marked window and you can then use the up and down keys to adjust mirroring effect ; although I do prefer 1 usually .
Second pic is a bit of wood [#3] I photographed yesterday and mirrored in Ap. I have developed an eye for the little things inside the bigger picture and am always on the lookout for subjects that can used in other ways; like mirroring .
For me; there is more satisfaction doing them manually but the affinity way is rather mesmerizing and a great way to waste time.

Question>> does the last pic look "sharp" on your screen? Keep in mind the original was a raw 12mg Panasonic FZ300 :)

Questions and comments welcome
Cheers

Really gorgeous, @ianrb!  That is one grumpy bear!!   Wonder what is going behind that expressively-blue forehead.

It certainly is, Jennifer! I saw the face immediately, but I didn’t see it as a bear until after I read your comment.

@ianrb: On my iPad the last pic looks sharp across the top (apart from the background) and all the way down except for the left-hand edge and a very small area in the central part of the bottom edge.

Hi @Alfred "I didn’t see it as a bear until after I read your comment."  I thought that bear was really annoyed at being flushed out of his hiding place in the tree almost immediately.  But then I find various and sundry imaginary animals in all sorts of things -- clouds, the faces of flowers, piles of rocks, etc.  Been at this "once upon a time" stuff for donkey's years!  Actually quite fun. Now if I could only draw what I can imagine.  Fat chance.

Bear??? That's Woody the ram 'cause there are no bears down here :1_grinning:
Thanks for the comments ---- the blur does look like bad photography ; lazy photography ; not thinking photography. It is a great little versatile camera, but it does need to be used within its limitations that all cameras have  --- that canon + 600 mm lens would test my limitations these days ---- mentally and physically :D  The Oly is certainly a great package

BTW Jennifer; what are these "Donkey years" you mentioned :1_grinning:

@ianrb

Hello! Donkey’s years: “a very long time,” per the Cambridge English Dictionary.   I have been using that expression since about age 5 — definitely donkey’s years ago!

@PedroOfOz A Koala?  If so, he has definitely misplaced his eucalyptus leaves!

Indeed!

A long held misconception (even here in Oz) is Koalas get um, stoned on the eucalyptus leaves when in fact the leaves have very low nutritional value ... ie not stoned just lacking in energy!

One would think the Koalas would have figured out their diet after x10,000 years plus—not so!

I would presume, even here in Oz, as I write they'd be stoners drying eucalyptus leaves ... ;)

Yes, one would! I wonder why they don’t follow the quokkas’ example.

Perhaps the koalas took a long look at Rottnest Island and thought, “Then again, maybe not!”

@DuctTape   Or maybe several dozen walrii on top of each other?  The lion looks as though he is lining up for a drink at the nearest bird bath.  Love his face!

In the land of the Eucalyptus, I guess it makes some sense.

Three quarters of all forests in Australia are Eucalyptus - there are some 810 recognised species. If you see a tree in Australia, chances are it's a Eucalyptus, even if it doesn't look like one.

Trick update :: The arrow keys can also be uses to adjust shadow decrees so I'm thinking the arrow keys can be used for most similar adjustments. You can also type in degrees
Has anyone heard / seen this trick elsewhere ; like the affinity book ? Maybe something for someone
could add into a video (??)
Often the smaller actions seem to be the most useful ----- maybe that's because I cannot remember all big actions  :(
Cheers
