How to do gradients on iPad vs desktop?

Recommended Posts

On desktop, I can just open appearance and change fill type to gradient.

But on iPad I get no such menu. Even on the large main fill dot I can’t figure out how to switch to gradient.

Even if I use the gradient tool, the fill type doesn’t seem to change.

How do I do a gradient fill on iPad and why is there an UI inconsistency between the two versions?

The Context toolbar for the Fill Tool in both Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo on iPad includes a ’Type’ control allowing you to choose between no fill, a solid fill, a gradient fill, or a bitmap fill.

Thank you!

Wow, that was super unintuitive and I never would have figured it out without the video.

Opacity on the gradient end points is apparently set to 0% by default, even though apparently my object was set to solid white before. That meant that even while watching the above video  I initially wasn't able to figure it out until he mentioned the opacity slider.

Why can't you click on the colored dot in the appearance tab on the iPad to get the popup where you are able to directly select a gradient? Would have been so much easier.
