Beta updates STILL failing

Recommended Posts

When it fails, it forces you to reboot, so I'm guessing it fails everytime unless you reboot. Have you tried to totally disable UAC in those moments ? (very bottom line of the slider)

EDIT: Oh...Windows defender is on, too.

I don't know that Rick has said he's forced to reboot. He reboots, and then it works. But perhaps it would also work if he just reran the installer by right-clicking and choosing Run as Administrator.

Well, is only setting the UAC to cero, the bottom.  At least for the sake of ruling it out...

I'd be curious to see tho in there's two processes in the task manager... although may have no sense...

PD: with forced to reboot, I meant that until he rebooted, the install wouldn't work.

No. Just after starting up the other morning, the Publisher update failed. Before I rebooted I updated both Photo and Designer. NONE of them had been running at all that day

I only installed Avast recently and this issue has been going on for months with no change in the way the update goes. The installs failed even with Windows defender switched off at one point

And it's only Publisher that fails? You can update Designer / Photo OK?

I remember that i had a Problem some Month ago and, so far as i still know, there was a Problem with Frame Network and after updating this, it was working well but i´m really not sure if it was the same Problem. But i believe it was the same...
On my System was Frame Network 4.6 running and i had to update to 4.7.... there was something like that I had  problems with.
On my System is now Frame Network 4.8 running.

Have a nice day.
Ich wünsche einen schönen Tag.

Yes. Photo and Designer update perfectly. After starting the computer a few days ago I installed all 3 starting with Publisher which failed followed by the other 2 which updated correctly (then a reboot to finish with Publisher)+

Do your setup log files show the same error that Rick G has been reporting?

You can find them, after a failure, by pressing and holding the Windows key, then pressing R. In the Run box that appears, enter %temp%\AffinitySetup and you'll get a File Explorer window opened to the folder that contains them. The subfolder with the latest date corresponds to the most recent installation attempt.

Sorry for my late answer. I've been gone on vacation.

I tried to update to the latest beta of Affinity Photo (as I said before the setup fails for all Affinity beta products) and got the same "Setup failed" again. This time I right clicked and started the installation with admin rights but got the same error (just as Rick in the video). My UAC setting is set to the lowest alternative (off) and I do not have Controlled folder access on. I'm not using any antivirus except the built in Windows defender. I have attached my setup log files and they seems similiar to Ricks.

What I've noticed when entering the installation directory after the setup failed (C:\Program Files\Affinity) is that the "Photo Customer Beta" folder is still there but I have no rights to access it and when hovering over it it sais its empty. When right clicking I have no read rights in the security settings tab (see screenshot in Swedish) and clicking advanced button and trying with admin rights also failes.

I've now also tried to update Designer to the latest beta but with no luck. These screenshots are from the sections for apps and background process in the task manager when running the setup for Affinity Designer.

After rebooting and checking the installation directory (C:\Program Files\Affinity), the folders for Photo and Designer betas are gone and when trying to install again everything works.

Seems like something is locking the installation folders during the setup and when rebooting they are released and erased.

It might be worth trying the newest publisher update .442.  For the first time in memory, it updated on my machine (Win 10 1903) without a hitch.  All previous attempts required a reboot.

Just tried it but nothing new. The setup behaves exactly the same as before for me. :(
