marieanne
Apologies for the daft question. I can't seem to use the frame text tool on an image. I want to incorporate the text into the image but can't figure it out!
Staff Dan C Posted July 12, 2019 Staff Share Posted July 12, 2019 Hi marieanne, Welcome to the forums Text objects and Images / pixel layers are separate in Affinity, meaning they can't be combined but you can overlay text over an image. Could you please expand further on the result you're looking for? Jim1964
Hi, Am also a new user. This is such a powerful program, but all I want to do is to insert groups of text into my artwork page by page, and have the text blend in with the background. Thanks for any, and all, feedback. Which Affinity application are you using? And what do you mean by "blend"? Jim1964
Thanks, and thanks for your fast reply, Walt. Am using Affinity Photo. By "blend" I mean, forex, there is a blue sky full of stars, and I don't want my text insertion to look like a paste on, but rather to incorporate the stars and sky color into the text "window." Staff Dan C Posted February 7, 2020 Staff Share Posted February 7, 2020 Thanks for the info Jim I've created a quick screen recording showing one method below, here I duplicated the background layer, created my text and then clipped and masked the text layer to the duplicate background layer. This means that the fill used for the text will match the image behind it exactly. I then selected the duplicated pixel layer and changed the Blend Mode, Multiply will cause the text to be darker than the image and Screen will make the text lighter. You can experiment with these blend modes to find one that matches your image best! 2020-02-07 11-05-18.mp4 jmwellborn and GarryP 2 Quote Please note - I am currently out of the office for a short while whilst recovering from surgery (nothing serious!), therefore will not be available on the Forums during this time. Jim1964
Thanks, Dan! That's very nice, and gave me a new idea. However, for this project, I need to have the text stand on its own, i.e., selected color/size/type while keeping the surrounding area (around the text) to blend with the background. h_d
@Jim1964 are you able to give an example of what you want to achieve and upload it to the forum? A screen grab from a website or a photo of a magazine page or book cover? At the moment it's quite hard to visualise what you're looking for. How about showing the result you ARE getting and pointing out what you don't want. 😉 But, if I were to take a shot in the dark: Maybe you're bringing text in with formatting that includes a color (even white) behind the letters. Check the Character panel.
