Hi,

I'm interested why, when using Studio Link, the appropriate apps are not loaded with their own personas?

To do this, use the "Edit in Designer/Photo ..." command.

That way I would launch the appropriate app which is not what I want. If so, why do we need Studio link then?

For quick/immediate access to the basic but specific functions of the respectively application?

Yes, but as you will certainly recognize, it is definitely not basic (as well as Tone mapping). Therefore, these special features are accessible via Edit in ...

P. S. Although I imagined linking applications a bit differently, but thank God for StudioLink :-)

Yes, the Publisher studiolink version are NOT the full version of the applications Designer, Photo.  For 100% application specific tools and configurations you need to use the stand alone application and not the one in Publisher.  I did not know this either until recently.

this sucks - I was very dissapointed - I have no real need for publisher at all, but purchased it to get what I thought was a full designer and photo integrated expereience. :(

You're never satisfied over things here on the Affinity forum... Perhaps your hobby to complain over every little small thing that almost everyone else don't care about...

Its NOT little, we were told Photo and Designer would be integrated ... in fact its not a COMPLETE integration - so therefore it was misleading.

Whats YOUR PROBLEM? Are you an Affinity developer or just some busy-body who doesn't like people giving honest feedback?????? I suggest you get another hobby rather than lurking on these forums moaning about honest opinions that can ACTUALLY make a difference.

I'll come back in a few months to see if Affinity have sorted this out - in the meantime I'll continue using Adobe Fiireworks and occassionally Photoshop.

And yes, I'll continue with my honest feedback .... good OR bad ....

I'm just complaiming for a job partially done.

  1. If they claim the complete apps are integrated, then they had to do that, not to ommit their personas.
  2. When I click on a Photo persona to edit a Photo document with multiple layers, I expect to start immediatelly to work on it, not to additionally click on "Edit Document" and then again on "Photo Persona".

BTW, negative criticism is needed also, to keep the Team awake. They must not fell asleep as Quark did it when on v. 3.31 and slept for abount 7 years.

Indeed. But a professional software should be professionally tested before official releases are pushed to the public. And open forums are for open discussion, even one that you (or forum owner) might not like...

So many bugs isn't a good sign. And ignoring long standing issues while constantly pushing new features (with more bugs) isn't a good thing either.
Fixing bugs should be major priority, before adding new features. Same goes with long requested features and roadmap features.

It really feels that agile releasing scheme isn't a good way for a professional graphic design suite. Just my humble opinion.

BTW I'm quite happy with Studio Link and don't have any issues with lack of some features that I can do easily via the "old" workflow (opening files in the other editor and replacing the links in Publisher later). For me, the basic set of features is currently enough.
All the apps are quite good for their price, I have to admit. But they still lack some polishing, sadly.

Lack of basic features (Envelope Disort, Select by..., buggy Expand Stroke feature, missing Offset Path feature...) in Designer is what really grinds my gears though.

Where did Serif claim to be Full and Complete application integration? Why didn't you refund Publisher, when you completely disappointed you?

The three apps are completely integrated (or at least soon will be with the addition of "Edit in Publisher" to the retail versions of Designer & Photo). They are just not completely integrated via StudioLink. Perhaps that will change in some future version of Affinity Publisher, but I suspect there will always be some limitations for various reasons, like the conflict between Designer's Artboards & Publisher's pages (you can have one or the other but not both).

But even without greater StudioLink integration, Publisher offers a lot of features the other two apps lack, which I think makes it worth owning, even for a great many users who will never use it to create multi-page DTP documents.
