Jay Maynard
I have a Photoshop workflow that uses Apply Image on a layer mask to punch out text from a white field. Basically, what I do is: 1) Open the PSD. 2) Edit a text layer to make the changes I need. The text is in black. 3) Fill the layer mask with white. 4) Apply the text layer to the layer mask in Multiply mode, 100% opacity. The result is that the text is erased from the layer that it's applied to, allowing the background to show through. This method does not appear to work in Affinity Photo: nothing happens to the layer with the mask when I apply the text layer as an image. How do I get there form here? Murfee
I think I understand, if so in Affinity just type the text, my example has black text, change the text layer blend mode to erase, this punches a hole through to the background, drag the text layer over the image until you see the shortened blue horizontal bar, I have placed a pink rectangle below the image to show the effect. Murfee
If the end result needed is to show the image just in the text, Type the text, this time the blend mode needs to be normal. Drag the image over the text layer until you see the shortened horizontal blue bar.
Murfee
If the ability to move the text around is needed, add a mask layer, it will already be white, drag the text layer over the mask thumbnail until you see the short vertical bar. Change the text layer blend mode to multiply. You can now select the text layer and move it around showing different areas of the underlying image.
