If you are using 1.7, first copy the star to the clipboard, then create text on a path as normal but rather than start typing your text, paste the star(s) when the cursor is flashing

To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. If any of "my" posts are wrong or appear to be total b*ll*cks they are the ones generated by the AI. If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.

This is an amazing feature I have only recently discovered. I thought it might be a bug, but according to the Layers panel it pastes the object as "Inline in Text" so it is a for real, supported feature. Yay! :)

For some really interesting effects, try making the star (or whatever) a symbol before pasting it as inline text. Then, select one of the symbol instances, expand it on the Layers panel so you can select its child shape -- rotating, scaling, shearing, recoloring, etc. that instance will affect them all. Or, select a parent symbol instance & add a shape to it -- the possibilities are endless.

Because it is inline, some of the Character panel options work oddly ... & some things do not seem to work & play well with undo or the history panel, to the point I eventually managed to crash Affinity Designer!

Anyway, Inline + symbols.afdesign is a lame example of what can be done combining symbols & inline shapes.

This can be really handy but be careful it is very unreliable and unpredictable.

My original:

After just a copy and paste, or a duplicate:

After trying to use tracking on the copy to get it back to the original.  Tracking is set to -1000 here:

The rotation of the objects around the text path are very different, even the distance from the center point have changed.  As far as I have found there is no way to get it back to what it was without just starting over and recreating the entire assembly.  So beware.
