Very poor performance, with resource manager open

There seems to be a significant difference in performance depending on whether the resource manager is open or not. The effect becomes clearer the more images there are in the publication. I didn't investigate whether the type of placement is relevant. The problem can also be observed very well in Serif's three sample publications:
