But why does it need 455 MB then? (The sizes of the .afphoto images combined) Its only the images and a little text on 3 pages. And when I embed the images, the file size is the same. Apparently the development team are aware of this. Affinity Publisher still in toddler stage I'm afraid. Take note of both MEB and Chris K comments. It appears that actually they are both linked AND embedded: linked so that alterations to original update automatically; and embedded so that app performance stays good. I would though prefer to have only proxies embedded and have smaller file size, even with slight performance hit when zooming in. It is important, at this point, to distinguish between images (JPEG, TIFF, PNG) and documents (.afphoto, .afdesign, .afpub, PDF, SVG, etc.). They are different, and treated differently by Publisher. Image files can be truly linked, or embedded. Documents can be embedded, or can be a hybrid of linked and embedded as @Fixx mentioned. If you want small .afpub file sizes right now, export your .afphoto files to images (TIFF, PNG, or JPG) and link the image versions, not the document versions. That was changed, before they behaved the same (and it made no difference in file size). I tested with 72,6 TIF file placed to a new Publisher file: linked 683 KB, embedded 77,6 MB.
