Justyna
How to insert a segment between two nodes? I can not find a solution, although I understand that maybe it is obvious. Details in the picture
thomaso
Watch out for join and close curves Quote macOS 10.14.6 | MacBookPro Retina 15" | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1
Justyna
your suggestion gives a solution like in my middle image - that is, the curves close themselves and do not create segments between them

You must join your two path to single path (select both paths or select neighbour nodes and click to Join), and then close (click to Close). Justyna
@Pšenda What you propose is exactly included in my pictures picture 1 (one object created from 2 curves) picture 2. (operation close - creates an undesirable effect)

Justyna
Did not work. Or I do not understand the steps in turn. Whatever I do not do, they do not connect with each other Move Along People

Justyna
@haakoo I understand :).I see that it matters as curves connect. I connected through: Selection of 2 objects - Layer - Geometry - Merge Curves - because I did not know another way. I did not know that you can connect through the Node tool Move Along People
JimmyJack
You guys are missing the fact that @Justyna stated that these are two segments contained in ONE object. I don't think it's possible (shortcoming of the Pen tool, imho). You can extend off of the end of one but you can't connect to the open end of another. You would have to separate the two segments (boolean divide) in order to then use the advices above (join > close). But in doing so the two segments will close (as in your second example.... but as separate objects). You would then have to add nodes in the middle of the new segments, reselect them, break them, reselect them again and delete. Now you can do the join > close. thomaso
34 minutes ago, haakoo said: Select the node tool>select both segments Or, bit more simple, with the Move tool (black arrow, shortcut V) drag a rectangle which touches * both objects to select them – and then switch to the Node tool (shortcut A). Advantage of selection with Move tool: the Node tool demands to click twice + exactly on both single objects path. It and does not allow to select by dragging. * you can set in application preferences whether dragging selects an object if it gets touched only or needs to be covered completely by the drag action. You can switch its nodes direction first to switch the start and end node. Feel free to try out and play around with the UI of your application. Justyna
My problem stems from the fact that for years I have been working on Corel and Inkscape. In some aspects there are more options in editing the curve. In affinity, some tasks are not so obvious Move Along People

FWIW, if you use the Layer > Geometry > Separate Curves menu option, you can avoid the closure of the two segments that a boolean divide annoyingly always does. For the one element 2 curve example in the OP's post, it works very well: Separate Curves via the menu option Select both curves & Join Close curve Quote All 3 1.10.8, & all 3 V2.4.1 Mac apps; 2020 iMac 27"; 3.8GHz i7, Radeon Pro 5700, 32GB RAM; macOS 10.15.7 Affinity Photo 1.10.8; Affinity Designer 1.108; & all 3 V2 apps for iPad; 6th Generation iPad 32 GB; Apple Pencil; iPadOS 15.
