1. How to create a shadow on an object (image 1 before, 2 after)?

To add the shadow you need to use the FX panel at the bottom of your Layers Panel

 

 

 

Highlighting can be found under the Character Tab

You could also make a character and or a paragraph style so you can apply and change en masse.

When everything you are wanting to do is on Q's Measurement palette instead of a dialog box like APub, I don't see how "more pleasant and faster" applies. But each to their own.

You can also create character styles for the shading (for which you can assign shortcuts) and object styles for the drop shadow so your drop shadows are consistent in Q. Speeds things up.

Maybe obvious but shadow is object level effect and cannot be applied to a paragraph/text run only. Thus headline must be cut to a separate object from text content.
