Osito
I'm currently running 1.7.1.404. Since installing this version, thumbnails for afdesign files do not show for me in file view (either through AD or through Windows Explorer). All I see are the file icons. Some points to note: 1. It is only the afdesign files I saved since the update that have this problem. Files saved before the update display correctly. But if I go and modify a file saved before the update, then save it, I'll only see the icon. 2. The option "Save thumbnails with documents has been checked'. It has always been checked. I tried unchecking then rechecking, but no effect. 3. If I export a file to a pdf, the thumbnail for that shows correctly. 4. Thumbnails for other all file types seem to be working correctly, as far as I can see. 5. I tried recreating the thumbnail cache, but that has had no effect. If anyone has any idea about how I might fix this problem, I'd be grateful. David Longmuir
Staff stokerg Posted July 5, 2019 Staff Share Posted July 5, 2019 Hi Osito, I'm not sure what else to suggest as it sounds like you've tried everything i would. One thing, when using File>Open make sure the View options for the open window are set to Large Icon and that should show Thumbnails as shown in my attached screenshot. Osito
Thanks for the replies. On inspecting my installation, I found I had two versions of AD installed: a 1.7. version and a 1.6. version. Not really sure how that happened, but in any event, I uninstalled them both, then reinstalled, and now it seems to be working properly. Only problem is, my assets are gone. Anyone happen to know if the uninstall/reinstall would have killed them, or will they be in a folder somewhere?

I am getting more the feeling that this is a windows problem, although I still don't get why this only happens with Affinity files.

For example, OneDrive won't show the thumbnails for Affinity files in folders that it's managing. It may be a bug, or it may just be the way that OneDrive is programmed, but in either case I would consider it a OneDrive issue, and I would suggest contacting them (OneDrive) and reporting the problem. Komatös
@dre. The question is whether it is the OneDrive client that comes with Windows or the Store app that you can install later from the Microsoft Store. In the first case, the preview function of Windows is used. All files for which there is a preview handler are displayed here with a thumbnail. In the second case with the OneDrive app, there are only thumbnails for the common document, image and audio formats. This is not a bug of Serif, but a design flaw of the OneDrive client app. In this case, there is the possibility of submitting feedback in the Microsoft Store. PhotonMike
The issue of not being able to view thumbnails in Explorer on OneDrive is a deal breaker for me. I've got to be able to look at the contents of a folder and visually identify the files I want to work with. It's a shame because I've spent quite a bit of time learning to work in Affinity Photo and Designer. I guess I'll adjust my budget and go back to using Adobe products unless someone has some suggestions beyond what I've read here. (It's not acceptable to me to have to re-host all of my files to another cloud solution or duplicate all of my content to my PC.)
