Pixelations in photos after export - Help Please

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am a new user. Working on my first photo and when I export a jpeg using the "Best Quality" preset, my image has these strange large pixelations that are not present in the original. It is also happening when I export a Tiff. However, pdf export correctly. Files are attached. I am working from a RAW photo taken on Sony A7s.

Help would be greatly appreciated. I am thrilled with the app so far aside from this hiccup.

Could it be an adjustment that I made?

Possibly. Could you attach your .afphoto file, so we can see what you've done after developing the raw image?

There must be some excessive adjustment to make details/tones visible both in the light and dark areas.

If the modifications were masked for sure parts (light, shadow), I'd understand. But here are the adjustments over one another. And in many cases they have no effect, see Brightness / Contrast with 0% / 0%.

Ok, so Pšenda, you were able to export the photo properly with all the adjustments, or did you turn some of them off that were unnecessary?

I just took your file, and exported it (8bit and 16bit TIFF without pixelation).

Exporting only takes a long time, which is obviously caused by the amount of adjustments.

Ok, I see. I had the issue exporting a Jpeg. How would you convert the file to Jpeg?

Export to JPEG (Best quality) no problem.

I'm not seeing the pixelation, and neither is Pšenda. We're both on Windows.

I'm not sure what OS Fixx uses, or whether he's seeing the pixelation or not.

But that gives us at least 2 Windows users who don't see it. And then we have you, Nicolas, a Mac user, who does see it. I have a vague feeling I've seen a discussion about similar pixelation, related to some kind of adjustments, and possibly strictly as a Mac bug.

It might be time to post a new topic in Photo Bugs Found On MacOS, and see what Serif has to say over there. (Unless someone from Serif sees this and comments here.) Or perhaps another Mac user will know for sure of a similar problem that's already reported.

Hello all,
No it’s not a Mac specific bug.
I can export from Nicolas’s file without any artefacts.
I changed nothing in his file, and tried exporting from Photo Persona and Export Persona in different formats and different jpeg quality resolutions.
All without a problem.
Is this artefacting only happening in this one file?

Well, if it was me and it only happens with this one file I would be inclined to just start again from scratch with the image in a new file.
Though you might try and copy/paste the adjustment layers etc… over to the new file and see how that goes first.
I once had a Designer file the just plain refused to export no matter what I tried. Eventually I gave up and copy/pasted everything to a new file and it exported normally no problem.
I think just very occasionally something in an individual file gets corrupted somehow and manifests itself in strange ways.

But the error will not be in the file, we all exported the same file without any problems. So the problem must be local, on the PC / installation. So I would try to reset the application (start with hold Ctrl), or reinstall, or try beta.
