garrettm30 Posted July 2, 2019 Posted July 2, 2019 I'm either missing something, there is a bug, or there is some undesired behavior. When I insert a new table of contents (I'll just say TOC hereafter), all of the items in the table of contents take on their TOC text styles along with whatever local formatting settings are currently the default. Then I can't clear the local formatting to use text styles only. When I select the TOC text and click the "Reset Formatting" button in the Text Styles studio, it breaks the link of the TOC, making it just plain text. What I would like to happen is to have the TOC use its assigned text styles without any local formatting. And if there is local formatting, I would like to be able to clear it without destroying the TOC link. I am reporting from macOS 10.14.5 with Affinity Publisher 1.7.1 Quote

This has me confused, do you mean the [No Style] defaults are mixed up with a previously formatted ToC style? ToC doesn't offend me any, but TOC is the how it is initialized in the Publisher interface, so it seems that to be the least confusing. 29 minutes ago, Old Bruce said: This has me confused, do you mean the [No Style] defaults are mixed up with a previously formatted ToC style? I have probably confused you because I do not have a good grasp on where the formatting is coming from myself. I have tried a few tests, and I now I'm not sure exactly is happening, but I could at least distill the issue down to demonstrate in a brief clip: TOC problem.mov In the above video, I am pointing out the Text Styles studio on the right where I begin without any local overrides. As soon as I insert a ToC, the new ToC has a local override of center aligned. When I try to clear the override, the ToC gets reduced to plain text, as you can see from the grayed out interface of the Table of Contents studio. It can no longer be updated. Quote

If you want to alter the formatting go to the "¶TOC 1: Chapter" and double click that, it will present you with the options. That bit shows the current style plus any overrides of the existing text, which I tend to watch very closely. However, as I was retesting, it did help me to realize that TOC 1: Entry style had alignment set to [no change] by default. Changing it did not affect the current ToC, but when I deleted and reinserted a ToC, the new style definition took care of it. Where we stand now is that there is still the bug that clearing overrides will convert the ToC to plain text (what you see from 0:17 in the video). Quote
Staff Pauls Posted September 25, 2019 Staff Posted September 25, 2019 I think that's a bug I'll get it reported Quote
