DM1 Posted July 2, 2019 Share Posted July 2, 2019 I think that is normal. Your output as layer with mask is exactly that. The selection determines what is masked. If you turn off the masking you see the original image. If you want to make it permanent, tick just the pixel and mask layer and use the merge visible option to create a new merged layer of the mans head. Your other option is with the original selection of the man, switch to Photo Personal and in the Edit menu tap duplicate selection, or simply output the selection without a mask. DM1 Posted July 2, 2019 Share Posted July 2, 2019 Oh yes, I see. That is odd. Is it repeatable? I see that the placed image is actually an embedded object. Maybe that is causing the effect. Edit. After playing around with an embedded PDF I believe this effect is due to the placed PDF file. It is an embedded file, you can double tap the screen to open the PDF for further editing. By selecting from the closed PDF you are creating a masked layer that actually retains the embedded file content. I see a similar result by saving a portrait to PDF and placing it in a document and selecting part of the embedded PDF. The resulting mask doesn't act like a normal mask. You cannot edit it but if you deselect it and turn off all other layers you will see the whole embedded image displayed. To be honest I don't know if this is normal/expected behaviour. Hopefully one of the mods can clarify. I believe the correct workflow would be to double tap embedded image on main screen. This opens the PDF for editing. Make your selection. Refine the selection and adjust the mask as necessary. When happy with the result, tap the back arrow to return to the main document. Your selection should now be ready to use with no further editing. Otherwise use can simply use another format. Export your PDF as a jpg. Place the jpg, rasterise it and select away. No issues.
