leonahussey,

Check the attached video. First i align the objects horizontally to their Selection Bounds (the blue outline that surrounds both objects). This means they will remain inside that initial blue outline. Aligning vertically works the same way/same options.

Then i change the Align to drop-down option to Spread, that is, align the objects in relation to the whole document so they align to the boundaries of the document itself.

There's another option in that drop-down menu called Margins (not showed in the video). This will align the object to the boundaries of the margins defined for the document. These margins (that Affinity shows as a blue rectangle) are only visible when you select Print or Print (Press Ready) in the Type drop-down on the Document Setup or New Document dialogs.

Yes it doesn't work if you group the objects, unless you select only the objects (not the group layer) inside the group in the layers panel.

Other option would be to ungroup the objects temporarily (they stay selected), perform the alignment and then group them again, all this while the objects remain always selected (which means they will not be scattered around / mixed with the other objects in your document)

A group of objects as an entity will always behave like a single object. This is by design. And makes sense. It allows you to align different groups if needed too.
