Insert actual date

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm looking for a function to insert the actual date (which should be updated automatically) to realise something like "published on 1st of july"

or "updated on 12 th august". Is there anything like this already and I missed it?

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums, Harry.

Several date/time variants are already there, and perhaps one of them will work?

View > Studio > Fields

You have choices of:

  • date created
  • date saved
  • date printed
  • date that you updated the text field.

All of those dates can also have a time, and you have choices of format.

To use one, with the cursor in a text field, double-click the name of the field you want to insert.

Therefore, it is best to first ask and then write new requirements ;)

Hello guys,

I also searched for this feature today.
»Saved« under »Document Statistics« comes closest, because you probably save
the document as soon as you make changes.

However, if you only open the document to export it as a PDF and don't make any
changes, a field that updates itself as soon as you open it might be handy.
In fact, I assumed »Date & Time« would be this field, but it's static and takes
only the date at the time you insert it.

Greetings

I came here to post a request precisely because of this situation. MrDoodlezz explained the issue I'm having word by word.

+1 from me, a new field with a running clock is needed.

Or current field »Date & Time« with update options.

I think you want 'Printed'. That updates on any kind of export.

Hey all!

Thanks Mark – I guess that's the field we're looking for! :5_smiley:

To be fair this is a very odd name for this kind of function
and I would never have found it by that label.
Considering the users who create documents that are not
necessarily intended for traditional Print. For example digital
presentation-slides or briefing PDFs that need a timestamp. :35_thinking:

Thanks for all the input here. I am looking for something similar, but with additional formatting options. For example, I'd like to insert the last two digits of the current year (or "printed" year), like the "23" from "2023". In other words, a formatting option like what you have in the datetime modules of most script languages (in Python, the code I need would be %y).

I saw the post that proposes to cover part of the APub date field by some opaque object, but honestly … no. It looks like a certain recipe for a lot of problems later.
