Craig Weightman
It is simple to detach a Studio Panel to work with it. Moving it back into it's original location is also simple, as long as the panel seats itself back into its group. The problem comes when you move an entire group out by mistake. Now placing that group back is more complicated. Using the 2 vertical 'guide bars' is the way I mistakenly moved the group out. However, using the same 'guide bars' to return it to its place doesn't work, dbl clicking on the location doesn't work. If the overall interface is moved, it is obvious the group is not attached. I have gotten groups to reattach, but never quite figured out how this process works. I know it must be simple, but.... Sorry for the apparently 'dumb' question, but the tutorials move and replace individual panels all the time, and also move a panel from one group to another, but they don't move the entire group, nor try to reattach them. Staff Dan C Posted July 1, 2019 Staff Share Posted July 1, 2019 Hi Craig Weightman Groups of Studios can be redocked, but only in certain locations. For example if you have 3 groups on the right hand side then select and move the top group, you cannot place this back in the 'top slot' as this is autofilled by the studio group below. However you can redock it either between the 2 remaining docked groups, or at the bottom of the stack. The mouse positioning for this can be a bit finicky (this is logged with our developers as an improvement) but if you drag the group to the bottom of the first studio group, or to the bottom of the window you will see a blue rectangle showing that the groups will redock as their own group, rather than joining another. Of course if you need to return your studio to it's previous configuration then you can use View>Studio>Reset Studio. I've attached a quick screen recording of this below, Docking Studio Groups.mp4 I hope this helps! Craig Weightman
It is not hard to dock a Studio Panel to a group. What is not intuitive is when the group, in total, is undocked from the right side panel area. When this happens it is hit or miss as to whether or not 'redocking' the group will succeed. There seems no set procedure.
Staff Dan C Posted July 2, 2019 Staff Share Posted July 2, 2019 Thanks for your feedback Craig, as I've mentioned this is logged with our developers as an improvement. When redocking a group, moving your mouse to the bottom of the stack should always clip the group as the last group in the stack. If you're trying to clip the group between other groups then the hit detection is based on the 'blank space' in the above group, ensuring your mouse is higher than the tabs for the bottom group, else they will group together here. Craig Weightman
Here is a screen-shot of my situation. There are two 'Group Panels' disconnected from the Studio Panel area. I tried your instructions without success. Neither 'group' clips-into any position on the Studio Panel - I moved the groups via the 'two vertical bars' on the left side of the group. I tried moving them to various positions in the open space below the top, secured group (includes color, stroke, etc). I also tried dbl-clicking the 'two vertical bars'. Staff Dan C Posted July 3, 2019 Staff Share Posted July 3, 2019 I've included a screen recording showing where these studios can be re-docked. I hope this helps! Craig Weightman
Thanks, that did the trick. It was moving the group until I saw the 'cloudy white' semi transparent overlay in the Studio Panel. When I saw this, I released the mouse and the group seated itself. If you mention you have to move until you see this color change in the open area of the Studio Panel, there is likely to be less confusion. Staff Dan C Posted January 10, 2020 Staff Share Posted January 10, 2020 Hi Cuando This is certainly possible in the Mac version also, make sure that Separated mode (under Window>Separated Mode) is turned off, and you should be able to dock your studios to the right or left of the workspace, as required! Cuando
Hi Dan, Thank you for your quick response ... But I still have the same problem, just let me attach it on the left side, as shown in the video that I attached ... Thanks again Panels.mov
Old Bruce
Okay, now I understand what you want. I (and probably others) thought you wanted it on the left side of the document window, not the left side of the Panels on the right. No you can't do that. walt.farrell
Docking panels to the left-edge of the right-hand studio seems to be a Windows-only function.
