John Leigh
My Affinity Photo has been,of late, running much slower- updating to v1.7 helped a bit so I decided to uninstall the program and reinstall to see if that improved matters. Part way through the uninstall stalled. On installing version 1.7.1.404 a black box appeared in the centre of the screen saying "Affinity Photo will be updated to version 1.7.1" followed by a black box saying " Invalid Path". It seems that it is now impossible for me to run Affinity Photo again. Any advise of what to do ?
Alfred
Did you reboot your computer in between uninstalling Affinity Photo and attempting to reinstall it? What is the folder path for the location you’re trying to install to? Edit: Try the suggestion in the post linked below. John Leigh
I did not reboot between uninstalling Affinity Photo and my initial reinstall attempt. However I have tried several reinstall attempts since the first attempt and have rebooted several times. I have never had a chance to choose a folder path location as Black Box 2 appears directly after pressing Update on Black Box 1 - initially I installed on the default location. I have already tried the Microsoft's Uninstall Troubleshooter app , Alfred, which you kindly suggested to another person with a similar problem, earlier in the month- to no avail. I guess formatting my C: drive and reinstalling everything will allow a reinstall of Affinity Photo (and everything else too) but that seem extreme and is not a preferred option. Staff Callum Posted June 28, 2019 Staff Share Posted June 28, 2019 Just now, John Leigh said: I did not reboot between uninstalling Affinity Photo and my initial reinstall attempt. Please could you try updating again and if it fails Please could you call up the run box by holding down the Windows key and tapping the letter R and then enter the following %temp%\AffinitySetup into the run box and click ok. This should open a folder, with some other folders in. Open the latest folder and there should be 2 log files, Setup.log and SetupUI.log. Please attach these two files to this thread. walt.farrell
Interesting. Your SetupUI.log file shows: Quote C:\Program Files\Affinity\Affinity Photo\*\.webp\OpenWithProgids*s*d* where I have used * to represent what is a NUL (x'00') character in the file. So it looks like your uninstall failed, and you will need to cleanup your Windows system. I would follow the instructions in this post: Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. John Leigh
A new development - after (see earlier correspondence) finding it impossible to install the latest version I tried my original version 1.5 of Affinity Photo and an installation took place onto my C: Drive and an Icon appeared in my list of available programs. I clicked the Icon and the the program responded. WOW ! The the "starting up" Icon ran and ran and ran and then a Affinity Photo is Not Responding message appeared An update to v1.6 and then v1.7 appeared to install properly but Affinity Photo again never actually started , just the "starting up" icon showing the appropriate version number. Does this latest development allow ant help from anyone ?
walt.farrell
I suggest you uninstall, then follow the instructions in the post I pointed to just above your latest post, if you haven't done that. Playing around installing older versions can only lead to things becoming more confusing/corrupt, in my opinion. You need to get rid of the existing installation completely, I think.
