If you are using on macOS you can use File > Acquire Image within our apps, this uses the built in support for scanners in macOS. If Windows you'll need to use the software that came with your scanner. Once scanned and saved you can then open in Affinity for further adjusting.

Not really. If you have Affinity Photo as the default program to open (say) tiff files then, if you save your scanned files as tiffs, then these will open automatically in Photo. This works so well you would hardly realize that you are not opening it from within Photo. I am assuming that you are using Windows.
