AP Refining selections - preview better than the final result?

Recommended Posts

So I am trying to replace the green background from a photo with a simple light grey background. Here is a detail from the original photo:

I use the Selection Brush Tool and then refine the selection to get rid of the green color while selecting the hair. The preview looks pretty good (over the new background I added):

I then output as a mask and I get this:

As you can see the green is still showing in the hair area. Why isn't the end result as good as the preview?

I get similar results, but I seem to get a better result when I Output as a New layer.

Can't really explain why the Mask output option is not as good as the preview

Due to the fact that Boris Johnson is now our Prime Minister, punctuation, spelling and grammar will never be worried about ever again.  We now have far bigger problems to be worried about.

We do have a new Photo beta for macOS available that has some changes to the refining selection process, it may be worth giving this a try. Download the beta and it will install alongside your existing version.
