Affinity Publisher relink Text to Master Page

Recommended Posts

Hey there,

I am currently designing a menu for a restaurant and I created a master page, that along other things also has a heading for the page. Now I wanted to change the font of that heading and I thought I update that in the master page, however it doesn't update throughout the pages. If I change the color it does not either. If I change something else on the master page it updates throughout all pages that use this master page, which is expected behaviour as far as I know.

If I reapply that master page to all pages and change the heading on the master page it updates on all pages again, but that also clears all my image boxes. So to me it looks like the headings are not linked to the master page again, I can also change the font of it on the pages itself, I cannot reposition it though. Is there some way to kind of relink it?

I am using Affinity Publisher 1.7.1 on Mac OS 10.14.3 if that's important.

Hi JanHol :)

Sorry to hear this! Could you please provide a copy of your .afpub file so we can investigate this for you?

Please note -

I am currently out of the office for a short while whilst recovering from surgery (nothing serious!), therefore will not be available on the Forums during this time.

Should you require a response from the team in a thread I have previously replied in - please Create a New Thread and our team will be sure to reply as soon as possible.

Many thanks!

Hey there,

sure thing :)  I'm sorry if I end up to be the problem because I just wasn't able to use it corectly.

The relevant part is the Grafictextfields with the dummy text "Heading" in the master page "Essen". They are however somewhat invisible because they are set to white text on top of an image placeholder. You can easily find them in the layers panel though.

The problem is that you don't have a style applied to the headings. Make one apply it (on the Master Page and the Pages) and all should work once you update using the styles. Text in a Text frame on a master page is replaced by whatever you type into that page's Master Page Text box including the Style.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Once you type in a Text "frame" (inherited from a master page) the text is no longer linked back to the master page hence changes to the master page text no longer affect the text on your pages

At the moment I don't believe there is anyway to relink text back to the master page other than reapplying the master but as you have notice that will cause other problems in your case.

As you seem to have used Nordica Plus exclusively for the headers, your simplest & quickest option seems to be to do a Find and Replace to find that font and replace it with another font and during the replacement you can also choose a new colour at the same time (if you want to).

To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. If any of "my" posts are wrong or appear to be total b*ll*cks they are the ones generated by the AI. If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.

Thanks for the help. That's a bummer, kinda of defeats the purpose of using text in the master page if I cannot easily change it all.

Unfortunately I have no idea how to search for a font, I tried to use the search field and enter the font the the format section, but it doesn't find anything. So I guess I have to change them all by hand the old fashioned way.

Thank you all for the help :)

Just make and assign a Paragraph Style to the text on your Master Page then edit that style to change the colour and font family etc of the stuff you typed into the individual pages.

As for finding individual fonts, The search and replace should work. You may need to have nothing in the text field and use the Format section choosing the Font Name and weight eg. Gill Sans, Normal or bold
