thomaso Posted June 26, 2019 Posted June 26, 2019 In a 90 pages document, 35 MB, I deleted all pages except 3. There are only 6 rectangles and 3 text frames left. No content added. I did "Save As..." with a new name but the file size remains quite the same: shrinks from 35 to 33 MB. Any idea how to fix this page-reduced .afpub's file size? Even more strange: I did a Save As to the 90 pages .afpub and it shrunk to 31 MB. – Whereas the page-reduced, nearly empty .afpub refuses to shrink below 33 MB with any more "Save As...". garrettm30 Posted June 26, 2019 Posted June 26, 2019 First thought is that it is configured to save document undo history. If that is so, then it needs to retain all the data (images, etc.) to restore should you decide to undo the deleting of pages. Quote
thomaso Posted June 26, 2019 Author Posted June 26, 2019 No, not active. Even then it would be strange that the 90 pages mother document shrinks smaller than its 3 pages child. Quote • MacBookPro Retina 15" | macOS 10.14.6 | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1 • iPad 10.Gen. | iOS 18.5. | Affinity V2.6
Staff Jon P Posted July 11, 2019 Staff Posted July 11, 2019 I've created a document with 100 pages, image on each and saved to a 15MB file, removing most of the pages and saving sends it back to a < 1MB file as I would expect, are you able to attach the 3 page file that has such a large filesize? thomaso Posted July 11, 2019 Author Posted July 11, 2019 @Jon, (to avoid space-wasting), this .afpub is already in this thread (with no reaction of stokerg): https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/91257-publisher-slow-saves/&do=findComment&comment=486518 https://forum.affinity.serif.com/applications/core/interface/file/attachment.php?id=98572 Quote • MacBookPro Retina 15" | macOS 10.14.6 | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1 • iPad 10.Gen. | iOS 18.5. | Affinity V2.6
Staff Jon P Posted July 12, 2019 Staff Posted July 12, 2019 I've logged this for the developers as I can't see why when I delete pages from your file the file size is increasing if save with history is not enabled. There is a blank history entry in this file which might be something, I've noticed tis gets created if you enable save with history, was this file previously saved with history? thomaso Posted July 12, 2019 Author Posted July 12, 2019 4 hours ago, Jon P said: was this file previously saved with history? The file's "mother"-.afpub had once for a short test many weeks ago "Save History..." activated. After this test the document got saved several times, both with "Save" and "Save As...". On the day, when pages got deleted and saved as a different .afpub, the history had not been active.
