Bebas Neue Font still doesn't work

Recommended Posts

I have found this post from Pre 1.7 that says it was being looked into: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/62646-some-installed-fonts-not-showing-in-font-list/

I only got Affinity Designer yesterday and this was the first font I tried to add. I initially downloaded from dafont.com and then from Fontfabric. Neither works.

@Sean P you commented on the previous post, so tagging you to flag this.

Try the updated versions from GitHub.
These are different from the versions I downloaded from FontFabric back in 2017.
They have modified the names, the weights, the version (error), and added a style group.

Just tested the OTF versions in APub on Windows and they work fine.

You can download the code master and just pull out the fonts folder.
https://github.com/dharmatype/Bebas-Neue/archive/master.zip

Warning: you do have to use the Typography panel to turn-off the alternates.

Please come back and let us know if it is now working on your iPad too.

Gave this go. Still not working in AP. After adding font using AP, it won’t delete either. If installed using font installer it appears in default apps such as Pages but not in AP.

M1 IPad Air 10.9/256GB   lpadOS 17.1.1 Apple Pencil (2nd gen).
Affinity Photo 1.10.5 Affinity Design 1.10.5
Affinity Publisher 2, Affinity Designer 2, Affinity Photo 2 and betas.

Hmmmm ... I did not see anything in those files which would cause a problem.
The install/un-install issues make me wonder if there are some font cache issues from the previous versions.

Are there some other fonts that you have installed that work properly that I can look at to compare and try to spot something?

We can also test Bebas Neue Pro.

I also tried and not working. I have Gotham installed, though that was very buggy as well.

Some of the versions of Gotham floating around out there are a real mess.
I tested real versions of Gotham in APub and had no issues. See:

So that may be the fonts.

Any high quality FOSS fonts that you have installed that work well?
Any commercial fonts that you have installed that work well?
Would like to look at what does work.

Gotham works fine now installed, it just caused AD to crash a couple of times first, it wouldn’t even open the folder. Where’s the best place to download it?

I have Apple’s San Francisco installed, no issues with that.

That’s all so far.

I have those (from the Apple developer site) so that is a good one to look at and compare.

But that was installed with the OS.
It is starting to sound like installing any other fonts is a problem.

The only other fonts installed are system fonts. Resetting iPad removed font from font list in AP.

Looks like the fonts are not the issue.
It appears that this may be an issue with how fonts are installed on an iPad.
Appears fonts must be installed via a "configuration profile."

See:

This may be mentioned in the Affinity documentation,
but since I cannot find/see that for the iPad ...

So check-out the articles.
May solve your font problems.

I used Fonteer to install the font. It creates the profile. That’s why I could see and use the font ok in Pages on iOS. I just couldn’t see it in Photo. Using Photos built in font installer I could see it listed in the install setting page on Photo, but nowhere else. I think Photo has an issue with this font but no idea why.

  • 11 months later...

It is the 23 june 2020, and this font is still problematic. It is crashing PS. I have activated the font in Adobe Fonts, but it is still causing a problem. I originally downloaded Bebas from Dafonts, which i didn't have a problem with in older versions of PS. But now have a problem in V17.1

You need to post this in an Adobe forum.
