Master page not working as I expect... am I wrong?

Hi, I have a big doubt. I'd like to use master pages to set some specific page types and assign these types to one or more pages of my document.

So, if I set a Landscape master page and I assign it to a page... that page doesn't change at all, and this happens also for many other characteristics of the master page.

Is it correct?

That is correct behaviour yes. 

The master and the target spread don't have to be the same size.
