My understanding is that an Affinity app is licensed for use on any computer which is owned or controlled by the licensee. The licensee might, for example, be an employer who leases computers rather than owning them outright: in that scenario, the employer controls the computer but an employee could be the primary user.

I think that is what’s known as a ‘nice’ distinction, Patrick. I can’t see any practical difference in the present context (but I’m probably missing something, as usual).

An employer who owns, controls or leases computers cannot put one license on all the computers he owns , controls or leases if it is for business use, [unless it is for one business person to use in that context, but that is pedantic].

How do I download the program without going through the pay stage and then using my product key to verify

Did you buy from Apple (Mac App Store) or from Serif (Affinity Store)?

Basically, you go to your account on the relevant store, sign in with the same identity you used for the purchase, and install (MAS) or download (Affinity Store, Downloads and Product Keys) from there.

From the Affinity Store you will need to validate again, supplying your email and product key, but in neither case will you need to purchase again.

I'm sorry to say that I'm a little confused.

I have installed the Affinity suite (Photo, Designer, Publisher) on my desktop. Can I also install them on my laptop?

I am the sole user of my desktop. My my wife also uses my laptop, but does not use Affinity programmes.

Sorry to be a bit thick. I've read the licence but if the intention is to bewilder then the author deserves a rise.

Yes, you can also install on your laptop. Your Windows license entitles you to install on any Windows computers that you own or control, so long as no one but you uses the Affinity programs for commercial purposes.

Thanks Walt. That's a relief. It's the same as for the old Serif (legacy) products then.

I appreciate the promptness of the reply as well, and without any patronising.

No, it isn’t. The licence for the legacy products is much more restrictive, allowing only one secondary installation for the sole use of the primary user of the main computer, and only on a portable computer such as a laptop or a tablet. For an individual rather than a company, the licensee of an Affinity app only needs to be the owner or controller of the main computer, not necessarily its primary user, and there can be multiple installations on other computers (desktop, laptop or tablet) as long as they are owned or controlled by the licensee and no one else is using them for commercial purposes.
