I'm trying to create a logo that looks sharp in resolution when 50x50 pixels or 1000x1000 pixels in size.  I have adjusted the document properties to accomplish this for differing sizes.  I was wondering if there is a setting to dynamically adjust the image (in my case, a PNG with transparent background) for different sizes where the resolution and appearance of the logo looks sharp at small sizes and large sizes.

Any advice is appreciated.

Hi p26963,

Welcome to the forums :)

Dynamic adjustment is only possible using Vectors, as these are scalable without quality loss. As soon as you're exporting to a rasterised format, such as PNG, there is only so much that can be done to retain quality, as a 50x50 pixel PNG file contains much less information than a 1000x1000 pixel image.

When exporting your PNG, I recommend changing the Resampler to Lanczos 3 Separable for the sharpest image possible, I hope this helps!

Thanks @Dan C for the helpful information!

For creating logos to be used for the web or potentially shirts, stickers and other items, is it best to use vectors for this or a combination of different formats?

Apologies for the delayed response, the answer however is a little complicated.

Different printers will request different things, depending on their printing process and the materials in use. If you're planning on printing the same logo on a T-shirt and on a 10m banner then it's best to use Vector as these can scale without quality loss. However if you're only printing to t-shirt size then vector or pixel is no issue. The higher the pixel count and DPI the more quality will be retained in the image upon export. We always recommend contacting the printers you're using to find out what their preferences are before exporting your work!
