marco_039
Hello everybody, I would like to ask you why if I start from a 710k file (Affinity file) and I Export it in Psd, the final new size is about 200Mb !! In the export windows I leave everything as preset, so Resample Bilinear and every other strings (Gradients, adjustments...) Preserve Editability. Because I have to send this file to a friend that doesn't use Affinity but Photoshop. If I send him the file in Affinity Format he can open it and all the Layers remain? Thanks for the info ! p.s: This is a very very nice program ! Marco
Staff MEB Posted May 26, 2015 Staff Share Posted May 26, 2015 Hi Marco, Welcome to Affinity Forums. Adobe Photoshop cannot open Affinity's native format files. You will have to send it in .psd format. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
marco_039
Hello, thanks....but you know why in PSD format the file is so bigger than the original?
Staff MEB Posted May 26, 2015 Staff Share Posted May 26, 2015 Hi Marco, Affinity's .afphoto/.afdesign files are significantly more efficient than .psd. You may also be using certain features in Affinity that are forcing the rasterisation of a number of objects/layers on export enlarging the .psd file considerably. Staff Ben Posted May 26, 2015 Staff Share Posted May 26, 2015 The PSD export in the MAS version was missing some compression code. Get the Beta version, and your PSD file should be exported much smaller. I will work on making PSD exports even smaller by using non-compatibility export (as Photoshop offers when saving a file). That does mean that the files will mostly be smaller, but also may not be useable by some third party software. I downloaded the beta version and tryed again to export in PSD....now the exported file is only 5 Mb !!! :) ....thanks for the advice.... So...now tell me what is better to do....use the MAS version for everything and the beta for exporting file? Sorry for my questions but is first time I use Graphic programs... Staff Ben Posted May 26, 2015 Staff Share Posted May 26, 2015 Yes - that would be one way to do it. The Beta will include new features and bug fixes, but it can also add future features to our file format that the MAS version may not be able to load - this results in the MAS version telling you that it cannot open a future version of the afdesign file. If you create your files in the MAS, they will always open in the Beta version. If you are happy to just use the Beta you will be fine. We generally make sure it is reasonably stable before we make it available anyway. And, you get all the new toys that way!
