Table Horizontal Flip - PUBLISHER

Recommended Posts

I have a table that I want to horizontally flip in publisher. However when I do it, the text flips too (so its backwards). I thought ok I'll just delete the backwards text and refill it in.. it stays backwards....

How do I make the text go back to normal ways and not flipped? I want to keep the table horizontally flipped on the facing page but the text is backwards...

I know its simple ... driving me nuts tho

I think you would have to do this in whatever software generated the table in the first place.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.4
Affinity Designer 2.4.0 | Affinity Photo 2.4.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.4.0 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

The only way I can see to do it is to create a separate text frame, select the frame (not the text) then copy and paste that into one of your table cells.  Effectively pinning the text frame as an inline object but for the life of me I cant see why you would need to flip a table in the first place

Why not just create the table how you want it the first time?

What are we missing here?

Simple example: a workbook

I design one side the way I want, then I horizontally flip it so that the binding pages always have the same side always in the gutter as pages turn.

Sure I can manually edit the right side master but I cant understand why I cannot just flip the text so its not backwards...

This absolutely seems like a table bug in Affinity Publisher at the moment.

also:

I see no true use of "horizontal flip" for a table if the text will always be backwards.

ps. Where is customer service on launch weekend??? this and MANY issues that need an official comment on.

Probably having some well earned time off since the launch

Another option

1. Rotate (not flip) the table 180 degrees

2. Select all rows & rotate all text by 180 degrees

Should work for the simple example in your third post but still think it's a lot of work in place of a simpler solution

My current workaround is to just copy the full columns and put them on facing page where they need to be. My current project that is what worked for me.

But the horizontal flip option for a table still makes no sense unless Im trying to make a secret decoder book to read in a mirror.

Since the launch last Tuesday evening (UK time) the Affinity team has been answering questions, solving wrinkles, and providing solutions on an almost nonstop basis — particularly for the many people who have just begun using the apps.  I am in the USA and have been amazed at the times this week when I have browsed through the Forums at 10 pm (EDST) to find Patrick and others still posting at what is 3 AM (UK time).   I am sure that you will agree that after 5 days of this, they deserve a day off.  Meanwhile, I cannot count the times when  @carl123 (or another experienced user) has provided a solution for something that I have not thought:  “Oh ho!  Bookmark this!  May want to use it myself one day.”

Definitely so far Awesome job Affinity Team. Loving Publisher

The current workaround (if highly stylized table) is to copy the column and paste it to facing page appropriate location.

Flip Horizontal is a distraction at the moment

Thanks for all the responses all. And thank you to the A Team.

Did Affinity ever come up with a solution to this? I understand the above solutions work for a simple table but I'm flipping an image shape with intricate ins and outs (it's a leaf) and want the text the right way without having to redraw the whole shape in the opposite direction!

I can't seem to find a simple text direction button to alter the text without the shape?

Maybe flip the whole thing and then select the text object inside of it and flip it a second time to flip it back?
